Wen suchen wir?
CARE Deutschland and the CARE Climate Justice Center are looking for a motivated Climate Adaptation Specialist. The candidate will ideally bring strong expertise in the area of locally led adaptation initiatives especially in relation to community-based adaptation and disaster risk reduction/anticipatory action, and in the integration of both. She/he will be embedded within the CARE Germany Programme Team and support both CARE Germany as well as CARE’s Climate Justice Center, who is leading CARE’s global commitment to climate justice. The position will focus on programmatic technical support, building partnerships with organizations working in the field of climate change, capacity strengthening and facilitating the collaborative engagement of CARE entities, including CARE Country Offices.
Ihre Aufgaben
  • Technical support 
    • Support in the design of proposals for new funding for Climate Justice related programming or for the integration of Climate Justice in sectoral initiatives.
    • Advise on-going initiatives and programs that need support to implement their Climate Justice activities. Manage specific components of flagship climate change programs.
    • Coordinate and/or participate in the continued development and updating of core technical content, tools and guidance.
    • Work closely with CJC and CARE Germany Programme Development and Donor Engagement team to engage with donors and identify new funding opportunities for climate change
    • Support CARE Germany strategic intentions regarding Climate change and contribute actively to the implementation of the climate policy

    Capacity development
    • Support country offices/partners in integrating climate change into their strategies and build capacity for implementation.
    • In collaboration with CJC, develop and facilitate training for CARE staff and partners provided by the CARE Climate & Resilience Academy.

    Strategic engagement with stakeholders in the field of climate change adaptation
    • Coordinate programming initiatives with different stakeholders within CARE International
    • Map and develop strategic partnerships and lead on the engagement with them. 
    • Engage Germany wide and on an international level in climate change networks and position CARE as a key actor in Climate Change adaptation
    • Act as a focal point for anticipatory humanitarian action as a strategy for climate change adaptation
    • Represent CARE at national and international fora
    • Knowledge Management and Learning
    • Contribute to the work of the MEAL specialist and Communication coordinator by ensuring technical aspects of MEAL tools, key learning pieces and technical documents, lessons, case-studies, data, communication messages, etc. and dissemination internally and externally
    • Contribute to CARE’s internal Climate Champions Network and co-lead different regional Communities of Practices
    • Train Country Office staff on CARE approaches on climate change adaptation, drawing from lessons learnt
Ihr Profil / Anforderungen
  • Advanced academic degree in climate adaptation and resilience or any closely related area
  • Deep knowledge and experience of at least 7 years on Climate Adaptation
  • Good understanding of how Climate Justice can be integrated into different sectors
  • Experience in designing/managing and/or implementing climate adaptation initiatives or sectoral initiatives with a strong climate adaptation component
  • Experience in designing and implementing tools and approaches for climate adaptation 
  • Excellent training design & (online) facilitation skills
  • Excellent coordination, negotiation and representation skills
  • Knowledge on working in and with international NGO’s
  • Excellent command of English verbally and in writing, basic German. Arabic, French, Spanish is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with others across countries and cultures and in complex international networks and to develop and maintain positive working relationships both internally and externally
  • Prepared to travel abroad
